Watch: Franco Debono Would Consider Running For MEP Election As PN Candidate

Franco Debono has confirmed he would consider running for the European Parliament elections on the Nationalist Party ticket if the PN asks him to.
“I would consider it,” Debono said in an interview with Lovin Malta. “I don’t think I would need to introduce myself to the electorate because I think they already know me.”
He said people approach him in the streets and on social media every single day to urge him to return to the PN.
“It is a daily occurrence,” he noted.

Debono said he would look forward to getting judge by the electorate for the first time since successfully pushing forward several proposals to Malta’s justice system, such as the right for a lawyer while under arrest.
“I identified shortcomings in our system and prescribed solutions that stood the test of time and actually aged like fine wine,” he said.
Debono served as a PN MP between 2008 and 2012, and although he has been absent from the political scene for over a decade, he has remained an active commentator.
However, he has said he wants to return to the Nationalist Party, telling the party “you’ve tried the rest, now try the best”.
Debono said he is on good terms with several people within the PN, including the likes of MP Carm Mifsud Bonnici, who had famously resigned as Home Affairs Minister in 2012 after Debono voted with the then-PL Opposition in a confidence vote.
