WATCH: ’Frankly Speaking It Took Too Long’, EU President Says After News Of Yorgen Fenech’s Arrest

EU Council President reiterated his commitment in ensuring that justice prevails in the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia, saying that the arrest of a suspected masterminded took far too long.
“The authorities should do everything they can to bring the guilty to justice, we have similar problems in other countries, but frankly speaking it took too long,” Tusk told a journalist from Net News.
Tusk was asked to comment on the news of Yorgen Fenech’s arrest yesterday morning. The businessman, who is a major shareholder in Tumas Group and Electrogas, is also the owner of 17 Black, the infamous company allegedly set to transfer millions to the offshore accounts fo Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri.
The news erupted in a protest, which Tusk put his support behind.
“People have a right to demand the highest standards especially in such a context, and not just in Malta,” Tusk said.
“I will remain focused on this, as journalist myself, it is very important to me,” he continued.
Fenech was arrested less than 24 hours after Prime Minister Joseph Muscat announced that he recommended a pardon for the middleman in the assassination.
He is the owner of 17 Black, the Dubai-based company that was allegedly set up to transfer millions to the Panamanian companies owned by former energy minister Konrad Mizzi and the Prime Minister’s chief of staff Keith Schembri.
He is also the director of Electrogas, the firm which operates Malta’s new gas-fired power station. The power station was a critical electoral pledge in Labour’s campaign to take government in 2013 and was under Konrad Mizzi’s remit back when he was Energy Minister.
