Celebrity chef Gino D’Acampo’s famed friends will be visiting the island to experience the Italian’s new restaurant once it opens in April.

“At some point he’s going to come here with Fred, you know we go around,” D’Acampo told Lovin Malta during an interview in Mercury Tower unveiling three of his new outlets – Gino D’Acampo Restaurant, Cabana Restaurant and Radio Bar.

The reality show Gordon, Gino and Fred’s Road Trip saw the trio of chefs and food-lovers travelling the world looking for the tastiest delicacies, with the three different lifestyles and personalities oftentimes clashing in the most entertaining way possible.

Speaking of his friends, he praised Ramsay as a global food ambassador who has dedicated himself to travelling around the world raising food standards, while also praising British chef Jamie Oliver for “making cooking cool” and helping raise the sector.

However, just don’t mention cucumbers to the Italian, who said that if there was one global trend he disliked, it was cucumbers being used in more dishes than before.

And as for Gino D’Acampo Restaurant, the chef made it clear that the “only thing you should expect is traditional, Italian food”, calling Malta “one of the coolest islands in the Mediterranean”.
