Watch: GWU Steps In To Help Students Left In Limbo After IEU License Revoked
The General Workers’ Union has stepped in to assist the several international students who have been left in limbo after the International European University’s license was revoked by the Maltese authorities.
Kevin Abela, the GWU’s secretary for the food and hospitality sector and Manav Sir, the union’s TCN liaison officer, held a meeting with a number of former IEU students today to assess the situation.
“We want to find out what their situation is and what the authorities can do vis a vis their situation,” Abela told Lovin Malta.
“Their study documents, and in some cases even their passports and personal documents, are being held at the school, which is currently closed.”
Abela said IEU students are rightfully frustrated at the situation.
“Some of them are in their third, fourth or fifth year of their medicine degrees and they paid a lot of money to continue their studies here,” he said. “One of them even told me that he has completed his course and graduated as a doctor but doesn’t have the documents to prove it.”
Meanwhile, a number of private educational institutions have opened their doors to eligible IEU students.
Birkirkara-based Knights College announced they will offer scholarships for three accredited diploma pathways in Business Management, Hospitality, and Adult Care.
Tarxien-based International Institute by Malta is offering IEU students a 40-50% discount on tuition fees, with the possibility of flexible instalments and all fees only payable upon approval to a course.
