Watch: Ħamrun Police Street Brawl Broke Out Over Fine For Illegally Parked Car, Five Arrested

Five people, all Maltese nationals, were arrested last night after assaulting two police officers in Ħamrun last night.

Shocking video footage shows a group of people attacking the police officers and throwing them to the floor in Triq il- Kbira San Ġużepp.

In a statement, the police said the two officers were assaulting issued a fine for an illegally-parked car. A number of people rushed out of an establishment and started arguing with the officers, who gave orders to maintain public order and for the cooperation of the individuals involved.

However, they ignored the orders and started assaulting the police officers, who were forced to use pepper spray and tasers.

Other officers were called in to control the situation and three people – a 42-year-old woman and two men aged 46 and 44 – were arrested on the spot. Two other men, aged 23 and 33, who had fled the scene were identified and arrested at home.
