Watch: ‘I Hate U-Turns’ – Alex Borg Distances Himself From Trump And Praises Meloni

PN leader candidate Alex Borg said his view of US President Donald Trump has soured in recent months.
Borg had openly endorsed Trump over Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. After his re-election, he praised Trump for his pro-life stance, his “authentic” style of campaigning and delivering on his promises.
He even said that Maltese politicians should learn some lessons from Trump in terms of taking a stand and sticking to it.
However, six months after Trump was sworn into office for a second term, Borg’s opinion on the US President has changed.
“Back then, I didn’t think that Americans had much of a choice,” he said in a new interview with Lovin Malta.
“Nowadays I think that while Trump has his positives, many of his decisions aren’t in sync with mature politics, such as those related to tariffs and constant U-turns.”
“I hate U-turns. I would rather take an unpopular stand than say one thing today and something else tomorrow just for the sake of being populist.”
Borg also warned that certain decisions Trump has taken on the global stage have only served to escalate tensions.
Instead of Trump, Borg said he draws inspiration from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“I view Meloni as one of the best European Prime Ministers – she talks in a national manner for the people of Italy and is improving her country’s political image.”
