Watch: ‘I Promised Alex’s Late Father That I Would Take Care Of His Son’ – Adrian Delia

During yesterday’s PN leadership debate, Adrian Delia revealed a promise he had made to Alex Borg’s late father Tony.

“I had the privilege to meet Alex’s father during the last moments of his life,” Delia said.

“I remember he told me something that I treasure till this day. He told me to take care of his son and I promised him that I would.”

Tony Borg was a prominent political figure in his own right, having served as the head of secretariat of former PN Gozo Minister Giovanna Debono. He died in 2018 after a long battle with cancer.

In the leadership debate, Borg brought up his father when he was questioned about his stance on euthanasia.

He said that six years before his died passed away, a doctor had given him only six months to live.

“They were six months of suffering and heartbreak with no hope in sight,” he recounted.

“However, at the end, his doctor informed him that he could undergo an operation in the UK but there would be a 50/50 chance whether he would live or die. My dad was willing to try it out, and when he returned, his doctor was stunned and said that he was cured.”

“He ultimately got to live six years longer than his original prognosis had predicted.”

However, Borg warned that his late father might have opted for euthanasia had the government’s proposal been in effect back then.

“He might have chosen that option and we wouldn’t have got to enjoy him for the next six years,” he said. “I personally cannot vote in favour of euthanasia, but as leader I would give my MPs a free vote.”
