Watch: Ikla What? Netflix’s Boss Baby Smartypants ‘Becomes’ Malta And Even Speaks The Language
A kid’s show all about the hidden world of babies and toddlers has just had a major injection of Malta into it.
In “The Boss Baby: Back In The Crib”, a spin-off series of the 2017 movie, the cast take on the role of a number of countries in a very political, United Nations-inspired show for the 10th episode of the season, ‘Sitting Ducks’.
“The team members place themselves in the care of the Uncuddleables with plans to expose them, until Tina falls hard for her babysitter,” the synopsis of the episode goes – but keen-eared Maltese viewers couldn’t help but notice the characters actually speaking in Maltese throughout the episode.
During one scene, the characters attempt to find a peaceful solution to a bit of an issue they are having, and turn to one of the most prominently neutral countries in the world: little old Malta.
“If there’s one thing I’ve learned from my Model United Nations Club, it’s that any opposing nations can find common ground with the right neutral party to arbitrate. And me? I’m Malta. A constitutionally neutral state for 40 years,” Tabitha Templeton, one of the smarter characters, says.
“You couldn’t have model UN’d as Switzerland?” one of her friends shoots back.
“Cici Smuthers already took Switzerland, okay? Excuse me,” Tabitha replies.

Later on, as her plans come to fruition, she excitedly says: “Yes! One down, Malta, you’re on diplomatic fire!”
It all comes to a head when Tabitha even speaks in Maltese, shouting ‘Ikla t-tajba!” at two other characters.
This isn’t the first time Malta got a shout out in a Netflix show, previously being mentioned in everything from The Crown to Queen Of The South. Here’s hoping we start hearing more Maltese language on the behemoth streaming service.
