Watch: ‘I’m Here To Work’ – Abela Wants Shorter Parliament Summer Breaks

Prime Minister Robert Abela said that Parliament’s summer recess, which typically lasts around three months, should be shortened.
On ONE TV yesterday, Abela was asked about two planning bills which were published in Parliament at the end of the month.
But before discussing the bills themselves, Abela spoke about the timing of their publication.
“You asked me why we’re still working in Parliament at the end of July,” he said.
“I understand that it is common practice for Parliament to go on recess for three months during the summer but I see it a bit strange.”
“Several Opposition MPs have asked me why I haven’t adjourned Parliament yet but I’m here to work all year round.”
“If you had to ask me about the way forward for the country’s highest institution, this practice of going on break for three whole months should be revised one day.”
“I sent a signal that the people expect MPs to be legislating in Parliament at the end of July too. I’m not saying that MPs don’t have a right to go on holiday but I think that people, particularly in light of major international challenges, expect us to be in that room doing our job.”
