Watch: It Should Have Read ‘Prim Invictus’, Emanuel Cuschieri Says After Protest Sign Stuck On Joseph Muscat’s Floriana Office Door

PL firebrand and former ONE Radio broadcaster Emanuel Cuschieri delivered a one-hour speech in front of Joseph Muscat’s Floriana office in response to a protest that took place this week.

“The line of decency has been crossed and these attacks are unacceptable in a civilised democratic country,” Cuschieri told his followers on Facebook. “My presence today is a sign of solidarity with this man, because I am convinced he acted in the national interest.”

Earlier this week, Repubblika staged a protest outside Muscat’s office to demand that he and his accomplices are placed in prison following a landmark court judgement annulling the Vitals-Steward hospital contracts.

Repubblika President Robert Aquilina even stuck a poster reading ‘Prim Korrott’  (corrupt Prime Minister) on his front door.

“An extreme faction of the PN came over to stick this poster, but I think [Aquilina’s] only mistake was using the word ‘Corrupt’ instead of the word ‘Invictus’. He must have made a mistake but people corrected him on social media, because it’s the word ‘Invictus’ that bothers them the most,” Cuschieri said.

In his speech, Cuschieri didn’t engage with the findings of the Vitals court case at all, instead challenging Repubbika to report “any evidence that Muscat is corrupt” to the police.

He claimed that Muscat’s critics refuse to leave him in peace because they cannot stomach his past electoral successes and because they fear he might make some kind of political comeback.

A ONE Radio broadcaster for almost 30 years, Cuschieri’s show Linja Diretta was pulled off the airwaves last summer after Prime Minister Robert Abela expressed frustration at his regular vocal support for Muscat.

He has since moved his show to Smash TV and Facebook, where he still speaks out in favour of the Labour Party.

“I didn’t have the best rapport with some of the PL exponents I defended over the years, but I didn’t turn the other way when they were in a tough situation because my time in the party taught me the value of solidarity. I will keep doing this, even to those people whose capricious actions over the past six or seven months hurt me.”
