Watch: Ivan Grech Mintoff Defends Egg Protest And Says PN And PL Deserve Even Worse

ABBA leader Ivan Grech Mintoff has defended his decision to throw an egg on stage during a recent MEP election debate at the University of Malta.

Grech Mintoff said he threw an egg as a symbolic protest at how the electoral system and debates tend to favour PL and PN over third parties and independent candidates, and the hypocritical stance of Malta’s main two parties when it comes to the topic of neutrality.

“I couldn’t stomach hearing PL and PN candidates boasting about how they are in favour of neutrality,” he said. “Is it true, as David Agius has claimed, that PL and PN are in agreement when it comes to the Partnership for Peace and that Maltese soldiers are currently taking part in military operations in military alliances in breach of our Constitution?”

“If it is true, then I think I was right to throw eggs. In fact you would deserve much, much more than symbolic egg protests.”

The Partnership for Peace is a NATO programme intended to enhance security between NATO countries and other nations across the Euro-Atlantic area.

It used to be a matter of political controversy, with PN in favour of Malta joining the Partnership and PL opposing it. However, PL has since changed its stance, and Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg confirmed last year that Malta is in talks to renew its Partnership for Peace programme.
