“My appeal to you is that while it’s only natural to feel low, we should give courage to each other because, more than ever before, there is a majority of people, independent of political colours, who genuinely want to live in a normal country. They have started realising that something is badly wrong and they cannot take it any longer.”

“There is a leadership crisis in our national institutions and my appeal is to not let this vacuum be filled by the extreme right. Our job is to give genuine, credible, honest leadership.”

Azzopardi then expanded slightly further on his Facebook page by claiming that “the government can forget about the Budget because it will become irrelevant.”

This isn’t the first time Azzopardi has hinted at such developments in recent months either. When interviewed on Jon Mallia’s podcast last summer, he said “chaos will erupt” in the coming months, that “Pandora’s Box will open” and that “the Labour Party will have to make important decisions”.

“There will be a domino effect and I have no doubt that the house of cards will fall. I have always said that the PL is a giant with feet of clay, they used to laugh at me but that’s what will happen and it will implode,” he said.

He suggested this could be linked to magisterial inquiries into the VGH hospitals deal and the Panama Papers which have been ongoing for the past five years.
