Joseph Muscat and his associates must be investigated by the police, a number of Maltese NGOs have said today in a statement.

Activists from Repubblika and #occupyjustice gathered outside the police depot in Floriana this afternoon to demand the police commissioner to investigate Muscat after some of his administration’s top officials including his Chief of Staff Keith Schembri were implicated in the planned assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The groups said Malta is “a nation in crisis” and called on the investigation into Prime Minister Joseph Muscat.

The calls come after weeks of protests taking place in Valletta following the resignations of Keith Schembri and former Tourism Minister Konrad Mizzi in the wake of the arrest of Yorgen Fenech.

Since then, Muscat himself has said he will resign in January.
