Watch: Joseph Muscat Says He Is Skeptical And Wary Of ‘Career Politicians’
Joseph Muscat threw more cold water on rumours that he might contest the upcoming MEP election by stating that he is skeptical of career politicians.
During a recent interview at Woxsen University in Hyderabad, India, Muscat said that politics “should not be seen as a career”.
“I’m very skeptical of those who look at politics as a career, as though you start somewhere and end somewhere as a sort of natural progression,” he said.
“I believe that politics is a phase in one’s life that you do for a period of time before moving on to other things. I did it at the very beginning of my productive life, others do it at the end – I would be very wary of those who do it for all their life to say the truth.”
The deadline for MEP candidates to submit their nomination is next Monday and Muscat has said he will send a “clear signal” in the coming days about his intentions.
Former PL secretary general Jason Micallef, a friend of Muscat, said that he has been informed the former Prime Minister won’t contest the election.
“I am sure that this was a missed opportunity for Malta and the Labour Party,” he said yesterday.
