Watch: Karl Stagno Navarra Warns PN Didn’t Pay His NI For 15 Years

Karl Stagno Navarra claimed that the Nationalist Party didn’t pay his NI social security contributions for 15 years but deducted the payments from his salary.

However, the PN said these issues have already been resolved with an agreement with the tax department.

Now a vocal PL advocate, Stagno Navarra used to work with the PN and its media for around 21 years, leaving in 2004.

The journalist said he recently found out, for 15 of those years, the PN didn’t pay his social security contributions.

“That’s how much they care about journalists,” he said. “I have asked the IGM for protection and requested the authorities to take action against the PN by giving them three days chance to pay my contributions, or there will be a criminal case against them.”

Stagno Navarra told Lovin Malta that he found out about this significant gap in his NI payments by chance after he asked the tax authorities to confirm how much he has paid so far.

“I am 55 years old and approaching pensionable age and it’s normal for people in my position to find out how many NI contributions they had paid,” he said.

He said he found out there was a 15-year gap in his NI payments during the period he was working with the PN, even though these payments were deducted from his salary at the time.

“They just kept these payments for themselves, and around 20 other former PN employees are in a similar position,” he warned.

Stagno Navarra said he has flagged the issue with the social security department and filed a report to the Standards Commissioner.

However, a PN spokesperson said that while it is a known fact that there were issues at the time, these have since been resolved with an agreement with the tax department.
