Watch: Labour Portrays Metsola As A Warmonger In New Campaign Ad

The Labour Party has released a new campaign promo which seeks to depict European Parliament President Roberta Metsola as a warmonger.

Labour’s promo includes brief clips of Metsola’s speeches, edited in a way to make it sound as though she is promoting war.

Some are taken completely out of context, for example a statement she made in the Knesset that “in the past months I have had to talk about war”.

However, she immediately followed it up by saying “Yet, both the basis and the ultimate objective of the European project is peace. Peace, democracy and liberty – objectives central to the future of Europe, of Israel and of this region.”

The promo also includes shots of the war in Gaza, Metsola’s trip to Israel in the wake of the 7th October attacks, and footage of protests against her in Malta and Austria.

Despite the PL’s campaign, Metsola’s stance on the Gaza war has been pretty much identical to that adopted by Foreign Affairs Minister Ian Borg, who has even told Lovin Malta that he has a “good relationship” with the European Parliament President.

Metsola recently accused Prime Minister Robert Abela of “hypocrisy” by not joining the leaders of Spain, Ireland and Norway in formally recognising a Palestinian state.

“The Prime Minister’s hypocrisy on such a sensitive subject is alarming, staggering, and flabbergasting,” Metsola told Lovin Malta. “He has been speaking about the Palestinian state for months by using and abusing the issue for his own partisan needs.”
