Watch: Local Wardens Beat Up Homeless Domestic Violence Victim Caught Squatting, YMCA CEO Alleges
Malta’s YMCA CEO Anthony Camilleri has just alleged that local wardens recently beat up a homeless woman who was squatting in an abandoned building to shelter from the rain.
Speaking with Andrew Azzopardi on 103 Malta’s Heart, Anthony Camilleri explained how this is an ongoing case that YMCA is currently dealing with, stressing the need for better education.
“We cannot keep living in a time where we know exactly where abandoned buildings are, we know where homeless people are living, and we go there, break down the door, and beat them up,” Camilleri said.
Camilleri continued explaining how the woman ended up homeless together with her dog after she was a victim of domestic violence.
“We know that people then reported her after she entered this building to seek shelter in an abandoned house during the latest storms, leading to wardens entering and beating her up,” he alleged.
Camilleri did not specify which locality the wardens work in or where this case happened, simply saying they were “wardens from the locality”.
“This is a particular case that right now, as YMCA, we are currently following,” he said, also adding that it happened around a week ago and that police are aware of the case.
“This is the reality brought on by a lack of education,” he said.
Lovin Malta has reached out to Anthony Camilleri, Malta’s police, and LESA to enquire about the aforementioned case.
