Watch: ‘Look At Society – Marriage, On Average, Doesn’t Work,’ Xandru Grech Says On Modern Relationships
A well-known Maltese athlete, entrepreneur and classic heart-throb has shared his take on the traditional institution of marriage – and why it may not work anymore.
“When it comes to marriage, it’s very confusing, because it’s a structure created culturally by people, and it comes with certain rules. “I may be shocking a lot of people here but if you look at society as it is, I don’t see marriage as something that, on average, works.”

Malta has one of the lowest divorce rates in Europe, with the island registering just 0.5 divorces per 1,000 persons in 2022. This number actually declined from 2019, when the island saw 0.7 divorces for every 1,000 persons.

A recent opinion poll also revealed that, for the first time in Malta’s history, an entire 10% of people identify as asexual.
