Watch: ‘Look Into Your Children’s Eyes’, President Emeritus Tells Biden At Palestine Protest In Valletta
President Emeritus Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca ripped into US President Joe Biden over his government’s strong support of Israel during the ongoing war in Gaza.
Addressing a pro-Palestine protest in front of the Christmas Crib in Valletta yesterday, Coleiro Preca described Biden’s unconditional support of Israel as “shameful”.
“Don’t you have children, Biden? Look into your children’s and grandchildren’s eyes and then look at the people in Gaza who are being sacrificed through your unconditional support of the Israeli government.”
She sent a similar message to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who she warned has “blood on his conscience”.
“Do you see Hamas in the eyes of those thousands of children who have died, in the eyes of those thousands of babies who were born at risk of death, and in the eyes of those women, elderly people and everyone who lives in Gaza?”
She had words of praise for the Maltese government, which recently joined Spain, Ireland, and Belgium in requesting an EU summit to call for a lasting ceasefire.
“The Maltese government has taken a clear stand that the war should stop and that lasting peace talks should start, and I urge international leaders to take that same stance. The people of Palestine aren’t second-class citizens, they are first-class citizens like everyone is.”
