Watch: Malta UN Mission Tackles Food Insecurity And Urges For Humanitarian Intervention
The Malta UN Mission has released a snippet of yesterday’s discussion on food insecurity in Gaza at the United Nations in New York.
“Nearly 600,000 people are on the brink of famine, with children suffering most, due to Israel’s military campaign & impediments to humanitarian assistance,” stated the Malta UN Mission on social media. They also stressed that “aid must be scaled up.”
The planned reform occurred as a result of two decades of war in Afghanistan and Iraq which caused the Army to expand in a relatively short amount of time. Quite recently, the military shifted towards protection from forces such as Russia and China as well as North Korea and Iran.
This dire situation is the “direct result of Israel’s military campaign”, and the amount of people suffering from starvation increases each day, therefore a humanitarian intervention is now necessary, highlighted Malta’s representative.
Malta urges the reopening of Port Ashdod to allow help to reach the population, since the risks to those suffering worsen each day the war continues. It also calls for a permanent ceasefire, to allow for a necessary humanitarian intervention which can address the “conflict-induced food insecurity”.
