Watch: Malta’s Foreign Minister: ‘No Story Can Justify Hamas Terror Attacks’
Malta’s Foreign Minister Ian Borg has insisted that any discussion about the ongoing Israel-Gaza war must start with a wholehearted condemnation of Hamas’ attacks.
“We have to start by wholeheartedly condemning the actions of the terror group Hamas, when they carried out terroristic attacks on Israel that left hundreds of innocent people dead,” Borg said on ONE TV’s Paperscan yesterday.
“No story or circumstance can justify these kinds of terror attacks. Malta wasn’t only among the first countries to condemn them but we were among those who called for an urgent UNSC Council meeting in our capacity as a non-permanent member.”
However, with the people of Gaza now facing serious food, water and electricity shortages, Borg urged Israel not to ignore the humanitarian aspect of the war.
“A country that is attacked like that has the right to self-defence but within the parameters of international law,” he said. “Just because a terror group attacked you doesn’t give you the right to attack an entire population. There are rules in war.”
The Maltese Embassy of the State of Palestine in cooperation with a number of Maltese movements and Arab communities will tomorrow hold a demonstration for Palestine in front of the Parliament Square in Valletta.
