WATCH: Malta’s Most Popular TV Host Gives Revealing Answers About Entering Politics
He’s been hosting Xarabank for 22 years now, but popular TV presenter Peppi Azzopardi has confirmed he dreams of a significant career change in the future.
That’s right. When asked, during last weekend’s special edition of Xarabank where he sees himself in five years’ time, Azzopardi confirmed he would like to enter politics, describing it as a mission.
However, this came with a proviso:
“My wife has not accepted and I must accept her opinion so far,” he said. “She absolutely doesn’t want me to go there!”
When asked by host Andrew Azzopardi whether he sees himself joining PL or PN, Peppi Azzopardi coyly stated he will “decide when the times comes” but that he backs the underdog.
This could well be an indication that he has an eye on joining the Nationalist Party, which is trailing badly in the polls, but the TV host was non-committal when contacted by Lovin Malta, stating he will have to assess the political scenario when and if the time comes.
During Xarabank, Azzopardi also let slip that he is writing a political TV series. Asked for details by Lovin Malta, he confirmed it will be an extremely controversial show.
“It will be like a Maltese House of Cards, but with some good guys,” he said. “However, the bad guys will be really bad.”
Azzopardi then issued this statement to this website
“I do not intend to enter politics for the time being. My wife does not approve of this and I am not willing to go ahead unless I have her approval.
This is one aspiration amongst many others such as that of writing a political series with the slogan ‘Storja Ivvintata li Kullħadd Qed Jemmen’. Of course I will not attain all of my aspirations due to time restrictions, even because Xarabank too is extremely time consuming.”
