Ray ‘Zazu’ Farrugia will be taking on his first ever match since his appointment as National coach at this evening’s Malta vs Armenia game. The friendly match will take place in Wattens, Austria at 7:00pm.

The Maltese team is being trained in preparation for his debut match as coach before their next match against Georgia which is set for Friday.

“The attitude and commitment of all the players have been excellent, there is little to say about that. I’m very pleased”

Some players were lost due to injuries, however Farrugia is still optimistic for his first game.

These two matches will make or break our team’s build-up for the UEFA Nations League. Coach Farrugia has brought 23 players to Austria, among which are six players promoted from the under-21 squad.

These include the Hibernians trio Joseph Mbong, Jurgen Degabriele and Dunstan Vella, Valletta striker Kyrian Nwoko, Myles Beerman, and also Birkirkara midfielder Jake Grech.

“They have done very well in training and this is a new experience for them, one that bodes well for the future of the team”

Armenia qualified in Group E in the 2018 World Cup. Malta won one game against them back in 2013 thanks to Michael Mifsud who scored the only goal during the whole game.
