WATCH: Malta’s Nightmare Sea Slime Makes An Unwelcome Return
Stinking sea slime has returned to the Maltese shores, as reports continue to flood in of the slick liquid creeping across the coastline.
The latest clip was taken just off Balluta Bay, and was posted on Stop The Slime, a Facebook page dedicated to informing beach-goers about the slimy nuisance and educate people on its potential health risks.
According to the page, dermatologists, the PA and the department of fisheries have all advised swimmers to steer clear of the goop as it could cause skin allergies and infections (over and above the smell of rotting fish that will cling to your skin and hair).
This problem isn’t a new one as reports of this slime have been surfacing for years, but every summer it seems very little is done to prevent it happening again.
Environmental activist and cleanup pro Cami Appelgren has said that the timing is no coincidence, as this is when tuna stocks are fattened up and given a lot of extra feed to speed up this process.
Apart from Sliema, the slime has been spotted at several beaches across the island, including Marsascala and Bu?ibba.
