Watch: Maltese Cat Volunteer – ‘I Am Ready To Pawn Off My Wedding Ring To Help The Strays’
A dedicated local cat volunteer said she is willing to pawn off her own wedding ring to raise funds to help stray cats.
Kitty Guardians Malta founder Miriam Borg Debrincat issued a desperate plea for help as she showed Lovin Malta around a garden which she regularly visits to feed cats.
“Unfortunately it won’t be much because it isn’t made of diamonds but yes, I will sacrifice everything,” she said.
Borg Debrincat admitted her husband was “a bit shocked” when she told him of her intention but said he would expect such a move from her, because “he knows I’m all in for the cats”.
In fact, she said has already sold several valuables, including her microwave and air fryer, gold she inherited from her grandmother, and new watches she was gifted, to raise funds for strays.
She is even considering selling her house to raise funds to buy an abandoned plot of land that she can convert into a cat sanctuary.
“I would even lay my life down for the cats if needs be,” she said. “You might ask me why I want to add more cats when I’m literally drowning, but if it’s for their safety and if they find food everyday…”
Borg Debrincat expressed her dissatisfaction with the authorities, who she warned don’t really care about the lives of strays.
“They don’t really care about the cats per se. They’re not fishermen or farmers, they’re not going to add anything to the economy. That’s fair but let’s divide our attention and our love and care for everyone.”
