Watch: Maltese Foodie Icon Nanna Rita Takes Lovin Malta On A Tour Around Her Delicious Kitchen

94-year-old icon and “matriarch to a Maltese culinary dynasty”, Nanna Rita, opened her beautiful kitchen’s doors to Lovin Malta to have a quick look and taste of some of her most delicious dishes.

Nanna Rita has spent 72 years mastering her culinary skills in her very own Sliema home, and she’s now releasing a cook book called Simply Rita so that all of Malta can indulge themselves with her mouth-watering recipes.

Lovin Malta was lucky enough to try one of her most iconic dishes – Gateau tat-Tarja which is actually her own nanna’s recipe.

It consists of a whole lot of pasta and very simple ingredients to ensure that all the flavours are enjoyed and celebrated.

A huge chunk of Nanna Rita’s family seems to have inherited her love and talent for cooking. With restaurants like Tico Tico, Giuseppi’s, Rubino, New York Best and Fat Louie’s all having or have had the Diacono name at their core.

This brief but fruitful encounter covers topics like World War II, table manners, meatballs and even her favourite child. So you don’t want to give it a miss.
