Two Maltese artists have won big in a tattoo tournament in Texas, USA.

“Can’t end a weekend better than this with my brother Luke Mercieca at the Ink Masters’ US Texas Tattoo Convention,” Kersten Mercieca posted.

The two brothers placed first and second in the Black and Grey Colour Fusion Category, a technique they are known for and have perfected over the years. A video captured the moment the Maltese names were announced as winners.

“It all started six years ago, when my brother Luke and I decided to start something new in our lives.”

Kersten opened up about how people had originally “judged us and told us that we can never reach high levels, but we did not let those words break us down. Instead, we kept moving forward and learned alongside professional tattoo artists worldwide.”

After opening their own Prodigy Tattoo Studio on the island, they worked on growing their clientele before beginning to enter international competitions.

With the Texas win under their belt, the brothers now look towards the next challenge where they can put Malta on the map.

“We are still feeling amazing,” the Merciecas told Lovin Malta, “and we are so proud of the talent on this small island.”
