Watch: Marmarà Calls For Social Media Awareness Campaign Like Those On Drugs And Alcohol

Statistician Prof. Vincent Marmarà has called for a national campaign about the potential harm of social media on a similar scale as campaigns against drugs and alcohol.
In an interview on Lovin Malta, Marmarà warned that social media provides a constant temptation for people to waste their already limited time.
And he said this contributes to the growing feeling that people are constantly struggling to keep up with life’s demands and commitments.
“People won’t mention it in surveys but the element of wasted time and lost focus created by social media, particularly among younger people, is a major challenge,” he warned.
“Meanwhile, major life-changing decisions like marriage and having children require deep thought.”
“I’m not saying that social media use should be banned. However, just as we launched campaigns about the effects of drugs and alcohol, we need to launch a campaign about the responsible use of social media.”
“We’re not taking into account the element of critical thinking, and sometimes mental lethargy, that could be on the rise.”
