MCAST students will stage a campus-wide walkout tomorrow in protest at how they have been left without exam marks as part of an ongoing trade dispute.

Student leaders, including Jordan Galea Pace and Matthew Democli from Kunsill Studenti MCAST, met with the college’s management today in an attempt to address the ongoing dispute.

Despite efforts, the MCAST management informed students that the Malta Union of Teachers would not be removing this directive and a meeting with MUT has been pushed back.

Consequently, students are facing the grim reality of not receiving marks from exams they sat for last November, and the possibility of their February resits being cancelled or postponed to the summer.

This industrial action during the critical exam period has increased stress levels among students, a statement issued by some students read.

As the strike continues, students are becoming the unintended victims of the inefficiencies in discussions and negotiations between MUT, MCAST, and the Government.

In a bid to express their dissatisfaction and urge a resolution, MCAST students will therefore stage a peaceful protest at the Paola college canteen tomorrow at noon.

Meanwhile, MCAST Mosta students have organised a separate protest alongside their lecturers at 11:30am tomorrow as a sign of support for their lecturers’ collective agreement demands.

While MCAST management has been holding regular meetings with MUT, including an official meeting earlier this week where several proposals were discussed, the situation persists.

MCAST’s management, hoping for a breakthrough, is eagerly anticipating the next meeting with MUT scheduled for 22nd January. The college is hopeful that it will revoke its current directive, allowing students to continue their academic journey without further pauses.
