Watch: Metsola Blames Labour For ‘Genocide Enabler’ Claims

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola has blamed the Labour Party for fomenting a narrative that portrays her stance on the Gaza war as that of a “genocide enabler”.

In an interview with Lovin Malta’s Tim Diacono, Metsola dismissed claims that she is enabling genocide and whipped out a letter of gratitude that the Palestinian National Authority sent her and the European Parliament.

“The only people who are saying [that I’m a genocide enabler] are the Labour Party,” she said.

“We lived through an MEP election campaign together last year and the PL had a single mantra [against me].”

“The PL didn’t just use this narrative, it created it. Malta is the only country where these discussions about me are taking place, which is a shame. There is none of this sort of discussion at the European Parliament.”

Metsola reiterated that she is in favour of a two-state solution that would see Israel and Palestine living side by side, but without Hamas in any position of authority over the Palestinians.

She refused to answer whether Israel should face sanctions, arguing that the European Council takes such decisions and that if she were Prime Minister of Malta, she would “call for peace and condemn every death”.

The full interview will be published tomorrow.
