Watch: Migrant Saved By Malta Says He Ate Corpses To Survive Brutal Journey
An Ethiopian man who was rescued by Malta in 2019 has opened up about how he was forced to eat corpses to survive the crossing.
Mohammed Adam Oga was the sole survivor of a group of 15 migrants who boarded a dinghy from Libya to Malta, and his account of how his fellow migrants died after the boat ran out of fuel and the GPS device ran out of battery was extensively covered, including by international media houses.
However, he has now revealed that he didn’t tell the full story of what happened on board the dinghy

A video recounting his story was recently published on a YouTube channel called Ethiopian Logistics Community, and Mohammed also reached out to Lovin Malta.
“As soon as the boat ran out of fuel and was left in the water, everyone on board began to cry in despair,” Mohammed told Lovin Malta.
“They started drinking their own urine and seawater, and then they began to die one by one, in pairs. We sat on the water for 11 days and all the people died until there were only three of us left, two Somalis and myself.”
“We started discussing whether to eat the corpses or the dead and save our lives, then we started eating and afterwards the two Somalis died.”
A day after the two Somalis, including his friend Ismael, died, a dehydrated Mohammed was rescued by an AFM helicopter and flown to Malta.
“I thank the great God, and the people who helped me out of that darkness, but I now have to share my experience on the illegal immigration journey to eradicate illegal immigration. I apologise for not telling the media that I saved my life by eating people who died of hunger and thirst in 2019.”
