Watch: Miriam Dalli Warns PN’s Environment Bill Endangers Hobbies And Economic Sectors

Environment Minister Miriam Dalli raised serious concerns over a PN bill to enshrine the “right to the environment” as a legally enforceable human right.

Dalli warned that the PN didn’t study the bill’s potential impact on society and said it will place traditions, pastimes and economic sectors at risk.

“This government has strengthened environmental protection, and we will not hesitate to go further, but legal changes cannot be carried out in such a disorganised way,” she warned.

“When a legal amendment is proposed irresponsibly, without studying their impact, it means it wouldn’t be in the country’s benefit.”

Groups representing hunters, trappers, target shooters and motorsports have warned that the vague wording of the PN’s bill could allow people to request the courts to suspend or impose restrictions on their hobbies on the grounds that they “harm the environment”.
