WATCH: More Footage Emerges Of Damage Caused In Malta Due To Strong Winds
The Maltese Islands are currently facing one of the worst storms it has seen in years; with gale force winds reaching well over 50 knots.
Localities such as Sliema and Msida have experienced flooding, and people all over the island have been reporting uprooting of trees, as well as severe damage to several buildings and vehicles.
People have been reporting power outages starting from as early as 6pm last night
“We would like to notify our customers that due to inclement weather we experienced damages to our network across different parts of Malta and Gozo. Our emergency crews are working to restore services in the shortest time possible however due to the severe current weather conditions in certain areas, recovery may take longer due to safety considerations.” Said Enemalta in a Facebook post early this morning.
Melita have reported that WiFi was down in certain localities, and Tallinja have also released a statement regarding delays.
The wind is set to remain at a Force 10 until around noon
After that it will steadily decrease until settling at around force six or seven, which is still pretty strong. The public is being advised to avoid going outside unless absolutely necessary until the storm passes.
