Watch: Mosta Candidate Flags Traffic Concerns Near New Eurospin Supermarket Site
With Italian supermarket giant Eurospin set to open its first Maltese store right next to LIDL in Mosta, a local council candidate has warned the area is already a notorious traffic hotspot.
“This is an area of containment by the periphery of the village, which means that big projects of this kind can take place here,” Thomas de Martino, also the new president of the PN’s MŻPN youth wing, said in a video at Triq id-Difiża Ċivili.
“However, all residents know this road is becoming notorious for the continuous traffic at all times of day. These kinds of projects are all well and good but the authorities need to keep residents’ needs in mind.”
He therefore urged Transport Malta and Infrastructure Malta to adjust bus routes through Mosta, increase their frequency, and plan properly to ensure the works and subsequent traffic diversions don’t come as an excess inconvenience to residents.
A popular low-cost supermarket, Eurospin has hundreds of stores across Italy, Croatia and Slovenia, and plans to open at least five in Malta.
