The Nationalist Party’s media has published a photo of a man hoisted on people’s shoulders to back up a report that Central Bank staff had chanted ‘Viva l-Labour’ at a Christmas party.

On Sorsi Infurmati last night, NET journalist Joe Mikallef said the man in question is a “very influential” official at the bank but that he will leave it up to Labour’s ONE TV to dig further.

In its original story of the bank’s Christmas party, Sorsi Infurmati had published a grainy black and white video of people dancing with ‘Viva l-Labour’ playing in the background. ONE TV journalist Karl Stagno Navarra then revealed that this footage was nothing more than a promotional video of a Barcelona nightclub with chants of Labour supporters superimposed over it.

Stagno Navarra, who hosts the TV show Pjazza, said NET was caught red-handed doctoring footage.

However, Mikallef insisted the video was meant to be a reconstruction of the party and not secret footage of the actual party, even though the original programme didn’t state this was the case.

“The Central Bank hasn’t denied that staff sang Viva l-Labour at the Christmas party while high-ranking bank officials were hoisted onto people’s shoulders,” he said last night. “Neither has it denied our reports of vindictive transfers and that it is promoting people on the sole basis that they are fervent Labour supporters.”

A Central Bank spokesperson told Lovin Malta yesterday that political discrimination is unacceptable and that it will await NET’s proof of the Christmas party.
