A new mural dedicated to slain Maltese journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia has been unveiled at the University of Malta.

Located just off the quad, KSU Malta showed the colourful mural created by Amy Aquilina, Alessia Cacciatore and Rasha Belle Zammit Cutajar in a ceremony today.

The mural shows the famed journalist and editor in front of a typewriter, surrounded by flowers and the words: “I’d rather be hungry and free than well-fed and oppressed.”

Members of the Caruana Galizia family were present, with Daphne’s niece Megan Mallia even addressing the crowd in a closing statement.

“During this vigil we will be unveiling a mural dedicated to Daphne Caruana Galizia as permanent memory, to be commemorated by all current and future students, academics, staff, and visitors as a symbol that the University’s ethos ties in with the Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press,” KSU said in a statement.
