Watch: New Flat In Balluta Bay Faces Sea’s Wrath As Waves Flood Balcony

Footage of a newly-built block of apartments in Balluta Bay, St Julians, facing the wrath of the sea over the weekend shows how at risk some lower-level flats may actually be.

At least one flat found its balcony flooded by strong waves, which made their way to the door to their home. The waves is slowly filling up the balcony, with the rising flooding visible through the door panes.

“Next to Barracuda… I hope everyone is okay, but to be honest I’m laughing,” one person said. “Imbasta we build, ġaħan.”

The controversial development has over the years raised eyebrows and made a couple of headlines, but after yesterday’s stormy weather, it looks like there’s one more thing to worry about if you’re thinking of moving so close to the sea.

While the entire island was struck by severe weather over the weekend, the recent storm was one of the first proper tests for any new homes built on the waterfront in key areas like Balluta Bay.

And judging from the above video, some of those homes may not be passing the test in the long run.
