Watch: No More Vans? Ian Borg Pledges Major Comino Kiosk Revamp

After pledging to halve the number of daily visitors to Comino, Tourism Minister Ian Borg also promised to eventually redesign the island’s kiosks.
During a debate on TVM’s Insights, Borg hinted that some of the 11 kiosks by the Blue Lagoon might also be kicked out entirely.
“The Malta Tourism Authority has annual concessions with around 11 kiosks, but this might be too many, especially if the number of visitors declines,” he said.
Borg said that while the number of kiosks won’t decline this summer, the MTA will pay attention to their design when new applications are filed next year.
“We won’t allow someone to just come over with a van or a truck and parks there with their generator,” he warned.
Borg reiterated his pledge, made in a recent Times interview, that he plans to reduce the number of daily visitors to the Blue Lagoon from 10,000 to 5,000 during the months of July and August.
He said he intends to reach this goal by reducing the number of commercial boat trips to Comino in the summer months.
