Maltese MEP Cyrus Engerer is showing his support for individuals with Down syndrome, particularly on the day which celebrates them, adding that this public backing should be shown “daily”.

“Not only on World Down Syndrome Day. We must work to give opportunities daily,” Engerer wrote.

The MEP posted a video of himself and his spouse and Labour Party CEO Randolph De Battista participating in Down Syndrome Association Malta’s project ‘Coffee With Us’.

“Once every month for these past eight months, we attended this project spearheaded by the Malta Down Syndrome Association – ‘Coffee With Us’, funded by the European Union, which gave young people with Down syndrome the opportunity to learn and practice working in a café,” Engerer said.

“I was really pleased to see how month after month, these young people gained more confidence in their job. They have grown so much that now they are ready to work in cafés and serve their customers,” he continued.

“Yes, every person has a talent. But every person needs the space to cultivate and refine their talents, in order to reach their potential.”

Engerer then went on to say that “As a society, we need to work towards helping others reach their full potential,” adding “That’s why we’re in politics.”
