Watch: Our Education System Is Forming Indifferent Minds, Maltese Lecturer Warns

University lecturer Francois Mifsud issued a stinging attack against Malta’s education system, warning it was established to form obedient workers and that it is breeding a sense of indifference.
“Our education system has been with us since colonial times, when the colonial government used schools to tell us how to think,” Mifsud said during a debate about the education system on Jon Mallia’s new debate show Il-Każin.
He said that back then, most Maltese people would work as civil servants, in the military or in factories, all jobs that require obedience as a key trait.
“Unfortunately, the same story is still going on in our schools,” he said. “I believe that education should form individuals, but responsible individuals with interpersonal relationships.”
“The enemy of responsibility is indifference and unfortunately our education is forming indifferent minds.”
The latest episode of Il-Każin will focus on a debate about the education system between Education Minister Grima, lecturers Carmel Borg and Francois Mifsud, and school principal Patrick Decelis.
It will air on GO Tokis at 8:40pm tonight.
