Watch: Palestinian Student At Valletta Protest: ‘Why Is Our Humanity Subject To Debate?’
A Palestinian youth studying diplomacy in Malta urged the world to stop being “blind and deaf” to the plight of her people while addressing a protest in Valletta last weekend.
“I can muster all the words and vocabulary I have learned as a Palestinian to humanise myself to the world – occupation, colonialism, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, open-air prison, siege, genocide,” Doha Aldaghma said.
“But we have been screaming these words for decades now and the world has proven itself to be deaf. Today the world is watching live photos and videos of my people being slaughtered and blown to pieces, yet it has proven itself to be blind.”

Warning that there is “not one crime against humanity that hasn’t been violated in Gaza”, Aldaghma urged everyone not to view her people as numbers but as human beings with their own dreams, aspirations, a family and friends.
“What is the world waiting for? Why is our humanity subjected to debate? Why are we being denied our most fundamental rights with the world watching?”
She concluded by reading a hopeful letter from her family back home, which said that the kindness and solidarity of pro-Palestine supporters in Malta give them hope that they are not alone.
