Watch: ‘Pastażata Kbira’ – Graffitti Activist Hits Out At Local Plan Change For Villa Rosa Project

Moviment Graffitti activist Andre Callus had harsh words for the government and the Opposition over a proposed change to the local plans to accommodate a high-rise project at the Villa Rosa site in St Julian’s.

“Pastażata u oxxenita kbira,” Callus said of the plans on Andrew Azzopardi’s RTK show yesterday.

“The government wants to change the law to accommodate a particular project. Developer Anton tal-Franċiż wants to build towers as large as 35 storeys, burying the bay and the surroundings, but the current local plan doesn’t allow him to do so. Therefore, the government wants to change the law – not to safeguard our wellbeing but to allow this wealthy man’s project to go ahead.”

The longstanding proposed project is spearheaded by Garnet Investments, a company owned by Anton Camilleri (Tal-Franċiż) and his son Adelbert, and will include a hotel, residences, offices and shops.

Callus also called out Opposition Leader Bernard Grech, who took a cautious stance when doorstepped by The Times this week.

“He should have been the first to rise up and call it out as a scandal, but instead he gave lots of empty words without taking a position over such a massive obscenity in front of his eyes.”

“I don’t believe the big parties will bring about change but I believe that the people can and will, and I believe that the big parties haven’t realised this yet. They are still resting on the belief that people will always defend them out of loyalty but they haven’t realised that society has changed a lot.”
