Watch: Pavement Trench In San Ġwann Swallows Two Victims Leaving Business Owner Furious

A gaping two-month old hole in a San Ġwann pavement has been causing chaos for locals daring to walk to or past a local restaurant.
San Ġwann’s Eat Me I’m Famous franchise owner spoke to Lovin Malta to complain about the hole – which was dug into the pavement directly outside his restaurant over two months ago.
“This is the pavement, opposite BOV, near the Maypole Springs and our outlet,” he can be heard saying, narrating a video taken on the scene which he shared with Lovin Malta.
“They dug this hole over two months ago,” his impassioned rant continued, “and its deep, nobody can pass by, two people already fell in. Its disgraceful.”
The owner has reached out to authorities several times over the past two months to find out more about this excavation.
“Whoever we call, including a minister, nobody knows what’s happening.”
The trench appears to be around a metre wide and two metres deep – and according to this business owner, has already swallowed two victims.
“Two weeks ago, they had to call an ambulance because an elderly woman fell in,” alleged the frustrated owner.
“The other one was when a motorbike fell in.”
Presumably, these accidents are why the rough edged crater is now surrounded by unsightly orange construction barriers and red tape which reads “electric power cable”.
People in the area have also, evidently, been using the hole as a de facto garbage can.
Pavements in Malta rarely provide a great pedestrian experience, if we’re totally honest, and we never have to walk very far to encounter some sort of obstacle forcing us to step off the sidewalk into a bustling road.
In this case, not only are pedestrians being endangered, but the entrance to a business is being sullied by the proximity of an unsightly hole – while customers are presumably eating their famous food between outbursts of swearing and screaming from pedestrians nearby.
“I don’t think it’s right,” concluded the owner.
