Watch: Pedestrianisation Of Mosta Well Underway As Roadworks To Pause For Santa Marija Festa

The Pedestrianisation of Mosta’s town centre is well underway, with former busy roads now turned into quiet – albeit still dusty – walkways.

Though there’ve been grumblings among residents for months on end about the chaotic nature of the words in Mosta, with seemingly half the roads closed all the time – and even some machinery tipping over to boot – Mosta mayor Chris Grech shared an update from the town.

Some newly-paved, pedestrianised roads reveal how the town will soon look on a wider scale.

“The regeneration of the Rotunda Square and the main roads that lead to it has now entered another phase,” Grech said.

“The current phase of the ongoing works, which are concentrated in the Rotunda square, consist of high-quality paving and design which will compliment the village core and the Mosta Basilica,” he continued.

Grech announced the works will be pausing for the festa of Santa Marija, starting from Saturday 5th.

“The Local Council will be taking the necessary steps to ensure that, every activity related to the external festivities of Santa Marija; including all the marches, as well as the procession of Religious Feast on the 15th August 2023, will take place in the Cleanest, Safest and Safest Environment for all those present,” he said, giving some more details about the ongoing works.

“It was for this reason that Infrastructure Malta communicated with the Mosta Local Council, and after the structural investigations were carried out, it was declared that the reservoir located in the centre of the square (pjazza) it found that the roofing of the said reservoir was declared as dangerous structure.”

“In the meantime, the council engaged a Health and Safety Officer who has been tasked and commissioned to issue an independent report, whereby it is being recommended that any necessary works must be completed by the end of this week in order to ensure that the external festivities of Santa Maria are organised safely, and in the best way possible,” he ended.

“The Local Council will also make sure that all necessary up-keeping and cleansing is carried out, In order  to provide  the best possible environment for the celebration of the feast of Santa Marija.”
