Watch: People In PN Who Hurt ‘Role Model’ Robert Arrigo Should Apologise, MP Alex Borg Says

PN MPs and members who had hurt the late Robert Arrigo should issue a posthumous apology, PN MP Alex Borg has said.

“We need to make sure that if he was hurt by certain MPs or certain members of the party, then yes I believe they should give their apology,” Borg said when questioned in an interview with Lovin Malta.

In his final speech as PN deputy leader last July, Arrigo criticised the PN leadership for sidelining him during the 2022 election campaign and telling him he was “only capable of fundraising.”

Arrigo would later say in an interview with Times of Malta that the PN caused him more pain over the last two years than the cancer he had been diagnosed with.

In an interview with F Living, his final interview before passing away after a battle with cancer, Arrigo said the PN never apologised for this comment.

Borg, who had served as a pallbearer at Arrigo’s funeral last weekend, said he was very close to him and his wife Marina and described the late politician as a “role model”.

“He was one of a kind and I don’t believe he was only good at finances,” he said. “He was very good at finances because he had lots of connections, however he also did a lot of background work which wasn’t always in the limelight.”

“He worked a lot, even in his district and was very helpful with people going through social cases, and I know this firsthand because many people came up to me and told me.”

“I am sure he wasn’t only good for finances; he was good at everything he did and sometimes people thought he was only good for finances because the good he did was never put in the limelight.”

“He did it without applause, behind the scenes, and that was the best thing about him – he did good for society without wanting society to know he was doing it. He was a humble person although he had everything he wanted in life.”

Lovin Malta’s full interview with Borg, in which the MP discusses the Gozo ferry, the police force, migration and the state of the PN, will be published in the coming days.
