Pete Buttigieg was the focus of a new segment from popular late night TV host Trevor Noah in what seems to be ever-growing media-coverage for Maltese-American candidate for the US Democratic Presidential Nominee.

Buttigieg has surged in the polls in recent weeks and is starting to seem like a genuine contender for the nomination.

Naturally, his surname has been common comedy through-line, with Noah spending the first minute of the segment debating on how exactly to pronounce Buttigieg… with quick-cuts showing showing American political analysts saying the jarring ‘Buttag’ and ‘Butta-Edge’.

On his Maltese heritage, Noah references the probably more famous Maltese-terrier.

“Is he Maltese? If he’s part little dog, I know he will definitely win every white people’s vote in this country.”

Noah, a politically-liberal TV host and an indicator of at least some of the Democratic Party’s demographic, was quick to sing Buttigieg’s praises highlighting his status as the first millennial and first married gay man to run for office.

Beyond the typical talking points associated with the young mayor, Noah also brings up interesting facts over Buttigieg’s work in South Bend, Indiana.

Buttigieg has been quickly transforming the “dying city”, creating tech business parks and raising the minimum wage in the area.

“There’s no dirt on this guy”

The segment features Buttigieg addressing the criticisms over his inexperience for running for president, being just 37.

He explains that his age is an asset, saying that it will be his generation who will have to deal with growing issues surrounding climate change and wage inequality.
