Watch: PN Executive Member Says Franco Debono Should Return To Party
A member of the Nationalist Party’s executive has come out in favour of reintegrating Franco Debono into the party.
Interviewed by Andrew Azzopardi on his RTK103 show ‘Andrew Azzopardi on 103’ this morning, Roberta Bonello was asked whether she would accept Debono back into the party’s fold.
Bonello, who is also a lawyer and a NET presenter, didn’t mince her words and immediately responded in the affirmative.
“Let me make it clear. There were never any allegations raised against Franco Debono as there were against Rosianne Cutajar,” she said.
She added that while he might have made certain “mistakes” while serving as a PN MP under Lawrence Gonzi’s administration, those events occurred over a decade ago.
“He is still a PN member and the sentiment you get on social media is that people want him back,” she said.
“The PN likes letting people express themselves and I agree with this approach. Franco Debono was one of those people who might have disagreed with certain things and made his voice heard.”
Asked whether she is ready to personally recommend Debono’s reintegration to the PN executive, Bonello said she will do that if Debono asks her to.
Debono has confirmed he wants to return to the Nationalist Party and, in a recent interview with Lovin Malta, said he would even consider running for the upcoming European Parliament elections on the Nationalist Party ticket if the PN asks him to.
He said people approach him in the streets and on social media every single day to urge him to return to the PN.
“It is a daily occurrence,” he noted.
