Opposition leader Adrian Delia delivered a strong warning to humanity about the dangers of climate change last night, urging the world to wake up before it’s too late.
“My father’s generation had rebuilt the world from the destruction of two world wars, where millions died for the sake of nothing more than greed and thirst for power,” he told rally of youths. “Our generation found everything readymade, from freedom to wealth, and what are we doing?”
Delia quoted 16-year-old Swedish climate change activist Greta Thunberg, who last month delivered a speech at the European Parliament, in which she urged MEPs to take instant and decisive action to combat climate change.
“Watch Greta Thunberg’s speech. Watch it, feel angry, speak out and stand up and become youths who believe they can change the world.”
The Opposition leader warned that over a million species are at risk of extinction.
“This generation is destroying the environment, it is destroying the world,” he said. “We found everything readymade for us but we wanted even more. We thought we could replace God. We wanted more power and more wealth, we wanted more of everything but we’ll end up losing everything.”
“What good is the economy and the surplus, what good are larger cars if we are killing each other? Tell your friends and let’s change the world together. Let’s not use plastic, let’s not litter, let’s not kill more animals, lets not destroy trees and keep using carbon fuels. In our everyday lives, let’s keep saying no to destruction and yes to life.”
