Watch: PN MP Ivan Bartolo Calls For AI To Replace Data Entry Workers
Nationalist MP and economy spokesperson Ivan Bartolo has urged the government to incentivise Maltese businesses to automise data entry jobs.
Bartolo’s argument, which he expressed at a PN rally last Sunday, is that AI can “free up” data entry employees to work in jobs that pay better salaries.
“A young data entry worker currently earns a salary of between €18,000 to €24,000 and we must invest in companies so that they automise these jobs,” Bartolo said.
“What will happen to these workers? Here lies the beautify of a Just Malta and a forward-looking PN because we want to up-skill and cross-skill these workers.”
“When new economic niches open up, these youths can be plucked from these jobs that will become automised and they will be trained and educated to enter a job that could pay them around €43,000. They will therefore be given a chance to climb the property ladder.”
The crux of Bartolo’s argument is that such a strategy could attract new companies to Malta without further increasing the population.
