Police have erected barricades at Castille Square to cordon off a small group of protestors who have spontaneously gathered in front of the Prime Minister’s office in light of tonight’s urgent Cabinet meeting.

The protestors are calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and are holding placards with messages such as ‘żibel’ (rubbish) and ‘xbajt’ (I’ve had enough). Several local and international journalists, as well as ministry officials, are also present outside to await the outcome of the Cabinet meeting, which is reportedly being held to discuss Yorgen Fenech’s request for a pardon.

Fenech has implicated the Prime Minister’s former chief of staff Keith Schembri, who was released from custody today, and has said he also has damaging information concerning former ministers Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri.

Meanwhile, Repubblika, Occupy Justice and Manuel Delia have announced a full-blown protest at Castille Square for tomorrow at 6pm in light of Schembri’s release from arrest.
